One of the biggest let downs about 2020 was the fact that all of our in-person plans got cancelled due to Covid. We had an IRL meetup planned at FatherIronHeart’s place, GuardianCon, TwitchCon, and more that we wanted to do but simply couldn’t. However, this year, that is changing! Next month on May 15, we are having our first IRL meetup in Fort Worth, TX hosted by Aaron & Fred AKA FireResistantPodcast. The event is called “SquirrelCon” and is going to be one to remember! It will be from 10am – 8pm CST at Trinity Baptist Temple in Fort Worth, Tx. We will have a full day of gaming, laughing, & eating. Plus some faith filled encouragement such as small group time and an encouraging message.
Many of our GMA leadership is going to be in attendance, including the four founders of God Mode Activated: Kennethan, Catastrophic, Freeman, & Kolt! Our CEO PastorDoostyn will also be there as well as other leaders in the community. We would love to get to meet you in person and play games together. It’s amazing that we’re able to be so connected thanks to the internet, but there’s just something special about being in the same room with people you’ve been building relationships with online. Please make plans to join us for this event. You won’t want to miss this!
It is hard to believe we are already finished with the first quarter of 2021! Though this first part of the year has seemed slow for GMA, our leadership teams have been working behind the scenes to develop plans and teams that will help us grow in the months to come. As many of you know from watching our Looking Foward to 2021 video or attending our town hall meeting in January, our main goal is to really develop our teams and make sure the ministry has a solid foundation and format so that our ministry will be able to continue reaching gamers for years to come. There have been a few things this past quarter that we have been working on to pursue that goal.
Firstly, at the beginning of the year, we hosted our first ever Outreach Workshop. About 8-10 of our creators on our Partners and Affiliates team gathered together for a few hours to discuss how and when to share the Gospel through their content and why it is important. We had 2 guest speakers, Deadlydillgaming and FireResistantPodcast, that spoke to our team about how they share the Gospel and how they have had success in growing their communities. Next, we have also recently started our Gospel 101 class. This is an 8-week course following the Gospel 101 book by Jeff Dodge. This class has been open to all of the leadership and all the community. It has provided a great discussion on what exactly the Gospel is and has even provided opportunities to go out and share what was learned that week directly with non-believers.
Additionally, one of the biggest things we have been doing behind the scenes is developing our new content creation team. SuperShadow has taken on the role of Content Director and within the next couple of weeks, we will be looking to add to our team in the way of show hosts, video editors, thumbnail designers, and more. We believe that pouring into GMA’s content creation on platforms such as Twitch, YouTube, Podcasting sites, and even TikTok will allow us to reach more people with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We truly see content creation as a way to reach out to gamers all over the world. So, in the next couple of months, you can expect to see our current shows updated and improved alongside new shows that will be coming soon. If you are interested in becoming a part of this team, please reach out to me (Catastrophic) or SuperShadow for more information.
Lastly, thank you for your support of the God Mode Activated Ministry. Without those who support our vision, we would not be able to reach as many gamers. I would like to ask that you continue to pray for the ministry and its leadership as we fall God’s call.
Leadership Highlight: TheTr33house
TheTr33house, or Michael, has been in GMA for about 5 months. He started out in GMA as an Outreach affiliate and quickly rose in ranks to partner, and now he is our Event Coordinator on staff. He is a 42-year old Children’s Pastor at Winston Salem First in North Carolina.
As the Event Coordinator, Michael’s role is to coordinate and organize GMA’s larger-scaled events throughout the year including the Extra Life fundraiser, the GMA birthday celebration, various tournaments, and more. Being the Event Coordinator, he is passionate about building a community of people that are not only playing games and participating in tournaments but are also doing life together. He is a family-friendly streamer who is called to reach the new mission field that is Twitch. His stream is often filled with crazy gimics, specifically sound bites from his favorite movie, the Goonies, and he often plays Fortnite.
Outside of gaming, you will find him spending time with his wife and kids or watching a movie. He is a huge movie buff and actually has a degree in film and video. He also enjoys exploring the mountains and finding new waterfalls in North Carolina. On top of all that, Michael has a huge passion for missions and helping to meet critical needs around the world, along with spreading the Gospel. Last year alone he helped to raise $13,000 for missions.
Devotional: A House Divided
12 For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, bondservant or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.
14 For the body does not consist of one member but of many. 15 If the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 16 And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” that would not make it any less a part of the body. 17 If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? 18 But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. 19 If all were a single member, where would the body be? 20 As it is, there are many parts, yet one body.
21 The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you.” 22 On the contrary, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and on those parts of the body that we think less honorable we bestow the greater honor, and our unpresentable parts are treated with greater modesty, 24 which our more presentable parts do not require. But God has so composed the body, giving greater honor to the part that lacked it, 25 that there may be no division in the body, but that the members may have the same care for one another. 26 If one member suffers, all suffer together; if one member is honored, all rejoice together. (1 Corinthians 12:12-26)
Is it ok if I yell out?
WHY DO SO MANY CHRISTIAN STREAMERS INSIST ON GOING IT ALONE?! ARGH!!!
Why do so many Christian gamers refuse to be part of the bigger body of the Christian gaming community? Why, Why, WHY?!?!
None of us can do it all and we cannot do it alone. Period. Mic drop.
Sadly, each day they walk this streamer path alone. They have the vision, the calling, the passion, and the plan. They have the graphics, the logo, the equipment, and even the discord community. And nothing is going to stop them from reaching the lost. Which, by the way, is the goal – to reach the lost.
It isn’t all wrong. What is wrong is when they go it alone. Even when a path is laid out clearly before them, they just have to do it their own way. “The eye doesn’t know my pain,” says the foot, “so I am going to go a different way!” All the while the eye has seen the stone in the path to avoid and is trying to warn the foot of impending danger.
“You don’t know me. I have a better idea! I have the sure-fire way to reach others”
“I have the logo that just pops and I have the equipment!”
“I already have a discord community”
Have you ever considered that God is answering your prayer when he is sending folks to help? Remember the parable of the pastor who refused on (3) different occasions to be saved during a flood? He told each rescuer, don’t worry. God’s got me. The pastor ends up dying, finding himself in Heaven. So he asked God “What happened? I put my trust in you. I devoted my life to you. I prayed and prayed, and thought you would protect me. Why didn’t you come and save me?“ God responded, “What do you mean? I sent you two boats and a helicopter.“
“What do you mean why did you fail? I sent you a community and pathway.” Each streamer that does it alone is that pastor ignoring the help that God sent their way.
Some do join, get excited, might disagree on some minor topic, lose the energy, leave, and go back to their way walking alone. There are too many streamers that I have met the last 2 years that have stopped streaming. And it’s because they did not realize they were part of the Christian gaming body.
“A house divided against itself, cannot stand.” Abraham Lincoln
The Christian gaming community is a house divided and it will not stand.
